Restoring your Valt

You can restore a Valt by either using your Valt secret (this is common when you only have a single device) or by reauthorizing a device if you are currently syncing and have access to device that was previously authorized.

Instructions to restore using Valt secret

  1. To restore your Valt from backup using your Valt secret, select Restore using my Valt secret on the Valt splash screen (you can also restore a Valt from the Incorrect Image Selection screen).
  2. Enter your email address to authenticate this device for restoration.
  3. In your email, confirm by clicking the link.
  4. Valt will download your encrypted Valt from the Cloud and prompt you to enter your Valt secret.
  5. After entering your secret, you’ll be free to unlock your Valt.

Examples

  1. Restore your Valt after mistakenly deleting the App Suppose your friend Huma accidently deletes your Valt app. You download Valt again from the App Store and on the splash screen tap Restore using my Valt secret. After entering your email and confirming, you grab your Valt secret from underneath your mattress and type in the 12 words. Then you select your images and your Valt is restored.

  2. Restore your Valt when you don’t have easy access to another device Suppose you’re syncing your Valt on your iPhone and your desktop but your desktop is away at the computer shop on repair. Your iPhone Valt gets corrupted because you spilled some beer on it. Normally you would just reauthorize your phone because you’re syncing, but unfortunately you don’t easy access to your Mac. Instead, you delete and re-install the app and follow the instructions for restoring your Valt after mistakenly deleting the App above.
